Tess van Zalinge and Epson transform a decade of design into limited-edition anniversary scarves

Three archive prints are reinterpreted through digital textile printing to mark the designer’s tenth anniversary

Dutch fashion designer Tess van Zalinge and Epson have unveiled a limited-edition scarf collection created to mark the tenth anniversary of the Tess van Zalinge label and demonstrate the possibilities of more sustainable textile printing.

The collaboration revisits three archive prints selected by Van Zalinge from collections created over the past decade. Rather than reproducing the original designs unchanged, the prints have been reworked as new compositions for the scarf format, allowing motifs from different moments in the label’s history to be seen and worn in a new context.

The scarves will feature in Van Zalinge’s Fashion Week presentations in Amsterdam and Copenhagen, celebrating ten years of the label.

The designs have been produced using Epson’s Monna Lisa ML-13000 direct-to-fabric digital textile printer and pigment inks. Unlike analogue dye-printing processes, pigment printing does not require steaming and washing after printing. This enables the Monna Lisa ML-13000 to reduce water consumption during the printing process by up to 97%.

Each design will be used to create a run of 35 scarves that will be individually labelled: “Tess van Zalinge, printed on an Epson Monna Lisa ML-13000.”

Digital production makes it possible to create short, carefully controlled runs, helping to avoid excess stock and reduce unnecessary fabric waste.

The fabric has been selected with durability, material impact and end-of-life considerations in mind. The scarves will be finished and assembled locally through a social-impact initiative involving refugees who have rebuilt their lives in the Netherlands. Together, these choices bring material selection, responsible print production and skilled local making into one considered production process.

Tess van Zalinge said: “An anniversary naturally invites you to look back, but I did not want simply to reproduce what we had made before. The archive prints carry memories of particular collections, people and stages in the development of the label. Turning them into scarves gives them a new purpose and allows those stories to continue beyond the original garments.”

Digital textile printing gives Tess the freedom to revisit highly individual archive imagery and produce it in deliberately limited quantities, without losing the depth, detail or character of the original work.”

The limited-edition Epson × Tess van Zalinge scarves will be showcased during Fashion Week presentations in Amsterdam and Copenhagen in 2026. They will also be made available as exclusive gifts and competition prizes.
