Forecourt retailer explores greener solutions

Sewell On the Go, part of the Sewell Group, is a local area forecourt retailer with 13 outlets across Yorkshire.

The community-driven business has a heavy focus on family values, partnering with local suppliers and putting customers and employees first, with Sewell ranking in The Sunday Times “Uk’s Top 50 Best Large Companies to work for” in 2022.

In a conscious effort to demonstrate its environmental commitment to both customers and staff, Sewell reached out to its managed print service provider KRL Group to understand how this could be achieved in any proportion with the print equipment it was using. Across each Retail sites we supplied and installed 13 Epson A4 heat-free inkjet MFP’s. The business wanted to explore how it could reduce the frequency of toner cartridges it was consuming, without compromising on its day-to-day operation.

Sewell has been a client of KRL for over 10 years over which period it had only ever used laser print technology across each site, but it was due a printer refresh and KRL was eager to recommend a greener alternative to laser.

George Baker, Managing Director at KRL Group, commented: “Sewell are a close client of ours and we are determined to ensure their every needs are met, so when they explained they wanted to explore greener alternatives, Epson’s heat-free inkjet was the obvious choice. Using Epson’s optimisation tool, we showed Sewell the significant reduction they could enjoy in ink consumables and the 80% saving in energy consumption with Epson’s A4 desktop compared to its laser counterpart.

“They were particularly impressed with the inkjet’s high yield replacement ink pack system (RIPS) and the reduced rate of ink replacements this could achieve. Along with measurable reductions in waste and energy from Epson’s heat-free inkjet gave Sewell a positive environmental message they could share with their board.”

Following a product demo, KRL installed the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-C529RDW across each of Sewell 13 sites.

Allison O'Sullivan, Operations Manager at Sewells on the Go, commented: “When it came to exploring ways of reducing our carbon footprint, printing certainly wasn’t high on the agenda, but were really pleased that KRL provided us with such a practical solution in the Epson inkjet device. With reduced printer consumables, we’re able to reduce storage requirements, reduce employee downtime, and reduce our burdens on the recycling process. The print quality hasn’t been compromised and we remain in good hands with KRL from a service perspective.”
