Epson Europe appoints CSR Director to accelerate regional sustainability commitments

4 October 2016 – Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom – To enhance and accelerate sustainability commitments to customers, employees and the communities in which it operates, Epson Europe today announced that Henning Ohlsson, Managing Director for Epson Deutschland, will also take on the new role of Epson Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Director for Europe, Middle East and Russia (EMEAR).

Epson, a global innovation leader in printing, wearable devices, robotics and visual communications has a tradition of creating efficient, compact and precision products that increases productivity and effectiveness while mitigating environmental impact. This appointment formalises the company’s long-standing commitment to sustainability in Europe, building on a global CSR track record which stretches back eight decades to actions taken in the 1940s. Epson’s forward thinking on the environment is contained in its Environmental Vision 2050, established in 2008 as a long-term guide for environmental action, which includes the goal of reducing CO₂ emission by 90% across the lifecycle of all of its products and services by 2050.

Henning Ohlsson’s appointment coincides with the publication of Epson's Sustainability Report 2016, a new downloadable document detailing the company’s CSR actions in the development of environmentally responsible products, initiatives to develop its own human resources with diverse values and capabilities, steps taken to enhance corporate governance and volunteer programs launched in communities local to Epson operations.

“Bold sustainability actions are our duty as a leading technology manufacturer, considering the scale of the environmental and social challenges that the world faces,” said Rob Clark, Senior Vice President, Epson Europe. “More than ever, sustainability actions are also a business imperative, helping us to deliver differentiated value to our customers, retain and attract the best talent in the industry, and enhance the communities in which we live. Henning’s role in leading our CSR initiatives across Europe is therefore critical to our long-term success across the region.”

Henning Ohlsson joined Epson in 2004 and is the Managing Director for EDG Deutschland GmbH, where he has helped to establish the company as a leading proponent of IT energy efficiency, waste reduction and CO₂ emission reduction. Prior to joining Epson, Ohlsson was general manager at Motorola in Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, and has many years of international experience in the consumer electronics and information technology industries.

“My role as CSR Director will include amplifying the environmental benefits of our product range, ensuring our regulatory compliance and raising employee awareness and engagement in local and regional CSR initiatives,” Ohlsson said. “I’m proud to lead this effort and to work for a company that takes its environmental responsibilities so seriously.”
