Projectors or Flat Panel – Factors to consider

By Hans Dummer

’Do I need an all-in-one projector solution, a whiteboard or a flat panel?’

That is a good question. Not surprisingly, it’s one which presents itself to many people when they are deciding on the optimum display for their meeting rooms.

This post will explore the importance of screen size, cost-effectiveness, image quality and eye health, helping you to find the answer to your question.

Afterall, when you’re choosing the right display for your business, there’s a lot to consider.

The best place to start is with finding the right screen size for your room.

This simple choice is so important – you need to display content clearly to have effective meetings.

You wouldn’t be comfortable working at a desk where the screen is too small – it’s not good for your eyes and can compromise the quality of on-screen content. For the same reasons, you need a screen size that is correct for your meeting room.

Achieving the optimal screen size means replicating the average desktop experience for all participants in your meeting, including those furthest away from the screen. According to the Snellen eye sight test, to make an image appear the same size when it is twice as far away, it needs to be twice as tall or four times the size in area.

This chart will help you find the optimal screen size for your meeting room; simply look up the room length on the left and scan across.

Cost it up.

After you’ve decided on the screen size you will need, you can start to look at one of the most influential components of choosing a solution – the cost.

Projectors are only a fraction of the price of flat panel displays to purchase and due to the light weight of a projector, significantly cheaper to install.

No reflection.

As opposed to flat screen solutions, there is no reflection. Automatic light adjustment detects the light conditions in the room and changes the level of brightness accordingly. This means you can view content clearly without trace of a glare.

Unrestricted viewing.

Some flat panels have restricted viewing angles, which makes it harder to see content on the screen when viewed from the side of the room. This is not the case with projectors. There are no blind spots so wherever people are sitting, they will be able to see the screen!

Easy on the eye.

Flat panel screens can appear pixelated when viewed for long periods of time – such as during interactive presentations or prolonged collaborations – potentially causing strain to the eye. Projectors have less pixilation so can be viewed in comfort during those lengthier presentations.

All in one solution?

Do you need to be able to host video conference calls? Project wirelessly from mobile devices? Annotate with precision? A projector offers solutions to all these key needs, in one swoop.

Hopefully this post has been helpful in highlighting why you might consider a projector over a flat screen. If you have any more questions or would like further information about Epson’s business projectors, visit https://www.epson.co.uk/verticals/business-projectors
