Valletta, Malta, is one of the two European Capitals of Culture for 2018, along with Leeuwarden. The European Capitals of Culture initiative was developed in 1985 and is designed to celebrate the richness of European cultures, while breathing new life into the cities. Each Capital is carefully selected after application of thoroughly developed proposals.

The programme consists of projects developed with various local and international communities. One of these events, the “European Eyes on Japan” visual arts project, led by artistic director Mikiko Kikuta, European Eyes on Japan has toured over thirty European Capitals of Culture since 1999. For 2018, M. Kikuta worked together with the photographers Alexandra Pace (Valletta) and Alice Wielinga (Leeuwarden-Fryslan) to capture Japan’s lifestyle through a European lens. Intervisions, a company with years of experience in large format printing was chosen to print the photos of the exhibition. The task proved to be demanding, due to the vivid colors and the large size of the artworks but Intervisions rose up to the occasion and using Epson’s newest SureColor P series printer and their expertise, was able to deliver the impressive end result, in no time.
How did they do that?
SC-P20000 is equipped with new, high-precision media feed stabiliser, which translates to no interruptions to the workflow, while the 10-colour UltraChrome Pro ink set, provided realistic and accurate color reproduction and deeper blacks, that really let visitors of the exhibitions have a life-like view of Japan. Furthermore, the Epson PrecisionCore Micro TFP printhead, allowed Intervisions to create in-house, high quality, Giclee prints up to 6m!
