Garden City Hospital’s X-ray department chooses the Epson PP-100 Discproducer

Dr. de Villiers and Partners, the X-ray practice at Johannesburg’s Netcare Garden City Hospital, has modernised the way it hands over x-rays and corresponding reports to its patients and referring doctors by installing an Epson Discproducer PP-100 CD/DVD disc publisher and printer.

The efficiency of the Epson Discproducer means that the radiologists can copy their patient’s x-rays and reports to a DVD in four minutes, and a CD in two minutes, saving them, the referring doctor and the patient time and money.

“Until October 2013, we produced conventional X-ray films for all our patients, which meant that they had to wait for extended periods of time while plates were processed, films produced, and reports typed,” says Leonie Tromp, the control radiographer at the practice.

“Now that we have installed the Epson Discproducer PP-100, we have significantly sped up the overall process, allowing us to see more patients in less time.”

The Discproducer holds up to 100 discs, allowing hands-free operation, and is fitted with six colour cartridges that produce vibrant, lifelike prints on up to 1000 discs per cartridge. Because each ink cartridge is separate, they can be replaced individually, avoiding wastage and unnecessary expense.

Able to produce up to 30 discs per hour, the Epson Discproducer PP-100 includes Epson’s patented AcuGrip robotic arm, which grabs just one disc at a time – even if they’re stuck together. This not only extends the life of the printer, but protects against production interruptions on unsupervised runs.

Supplied with Epson’s Total Disc Monitoring software, the printer keeps users up to date with each job’s progress with its front-facing control and status reporting. It also offers alerts about disc stock and an estimate of how many discs can be printed with the ink remaining in the cartridges, allowing for effective consumables replacement and procurement planning.

Stephen Havvas of Africa X-Ray Industrial and Medical (AXIM) provided the solution to Dr. de Villiers and Partners, in collaboration with Intellistor, an Epson specialist distributor.
