Mini case study – Epson provides immersive 3D experience for students

North Hertfordshire College's new Gazelle STEM centre is a specially designed state-of-the-art teaching facility and exhibition space. It offers students the opportunity to learn with a demonstration area, iPads, a laboratory and a multimedia studio. To complete the interactive experience, it required an immersive theatre feature.

The College

North Hertfordshire College, Hertfordshire based across five campuses, offers full-time, part-time and apprenticeship courses and an innovative, engaging learning environment to its 15,000 students.

The Customer

  • Its Gazelle STEM centre provides an imaginative and interactive experience to students and school pupils
The Challenge
  • The College’s new Gazelle STEM centre is a specially designed state-of-the-art teaching facility and exhibition space
  • It delivers science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) activity days to primary and secondary pupils, as well as STEM lessons to its own students
  • It offers students the opportunity to learn by doing, with a demonstration area, iPads, a laboratory and a multimedia studio
  • To complete the interactive experience, it required an immersive theatre featuring 3D projection and surround sound
The Solution
  • Epson installed an EB-W16SK 3D projector in the STEM centre
  • The dual projection system displays ultra-bright 3D imagery
  • Dedicated educational software brings to life a range of topics, such as human anatomy, in 3D
  • Like a home cinema, the projector can show traditional 3D DVDs and Blu-ray

“The Epson 3D projector opens up a lot of different possibilities for STEM education. When students come out of the classroom environment into the STEM centre, they start to see things in a different light – it really cements the understanding of the topic. As a college, we’re moving increasingly towards using different learning environments, and the projector makes a big difference to our ability to deliver that.”
