Copytype saves four local businesses 16 tonnes of CO2 emissions

Copytype, a managed print document solutions provider based in Limerick, Ireland, has helped four local businesses achieve significant environmental, productivity and financial benefits thanks to replacing their laser printers with Epson’s heat-free business inkjet printers.

Copytype believe that the overbearing commitments and costs of printer hardware are a thing of the past. As such, it has developed an approach that combines printing as a service - through its proprietary managed print service – together with the environmental benefits of Epson’s heat-free business inkjet technology.

Epson’s inkjet printers consume less energy than laser printers, use fewer consumables and  require lower intervention. As a celebration of this environmental differentiator in the print industry, Copytype makes a contribution to the Burren print project in Ireland’s famous ‘Burren’ national park with the sale of every Epson inkjet device. Thanks to its competitive MPS proposition, married with a comprehensive customer care service, Copytype has built strong relationships with local businesses operating across a diverse range of sectors. Here are some recent examples of this:

Accountancy

DM Financial is a professional services firm focused on delivering specialist solutions to complex, diverse and growing organisations. Copytype supply DM Financial with photocopiers, printers and scanners while replenishing consumables when required. Copytype recently replaced two of their A3 MFP devices with an Epson WorkForce WF-M20590 and a WorkForce WF-C579R MFP. They manage an approximate monthly print volume of 10,000 colour A4 prints and 100,000 mono A4 prints.

Helen Philpott, Head of international Operations at Doran + Minehand, states: “We initially went to tender for a photocopier back in 2011 when we were a much smaller company with about 18 employees. Since then, we have grown significantly, employing over 60 staff in Limerick. We ordered from Copytype because of their price competitiveness and range of products.”

Since it was established in 2007, DM Financial has grown significantly and has continued to partner with Copytype to support its increased needs. It now spans five floors, with Copytype supplying printers/scanners across each. Helen comments: “The team at Copytype understand our business and the importance of time-critical delivery for clients. We work collaboratively to ensure that the equipment we have onsite suits the needs of the business as it grows.”

DM Financial has changed some processes, too, she explains: “We also do more scanning directly from the copiers to the individual employee's inbox. This has significantly reduced our printing requirement as we can send documents securely from the printer/scanner. Faster printing, using less electricity, has enabled cost savings and efficiencies.”

The business is looking to open new offices in Limerick: “We plan to continue to grow our customer base and extend our service offering to maintain our position as a key employer in Limerick,” adds Helen. “We will continue to work with Copytype to support our growing business needs.”

Pharmaceutical

Pharmacy Store comprises an online pharmacy and four stores across Limerick and Country Clare.  It provides high-quality pharmacy products and services, on time, at a competitive price, and deliver the same customer experience online as customers receive in-store. Just recently, Copytype replaced seven of their laser printers with five Epson WorkForce WF-579R MFPs that print a monthly average of around 3,500 A4 colour prints and 2,000 A4 mono prints.

Anita White Scanlan, Finance Manager at Pharmacy Store, explains: “Copytype was recommended to us by our IT provider in 2019. We initially purchased one system and we were happy with the hardware as well as their excellent service. They carry out the maintenance and provide all the consumables.”

She continues: “We have streamlined our printing/fax/scanning systems in our locations to use Epson and Copytype exclusively. And, as our business grows, I believe we will use Copytype for all our needs in this area. They offer great service, good value, and we have had very little issues with our printing and scanning requirements with their systems.”

Financial

Mallow Credit Union has been serving the community for over 50 years. They replaced their 14 laser MFPs with Epson inkjet equivalent printers at its head office in Mallow, County Cork, and a printer in each of its seven sub-offices in Buttevant, Charleville, Doneraile, Dromcollogher, Broadford, Ballydaheen, and Millstreet. 70% are A4 desktop solutions, each managing a monthly print volume of around 5,000 colour and 30,000 mono prints.

David Kelleher, Financial Controller at Mallow Credit Union, explains: “We were looking to move to an MPS option for our photocopying and scanning, and after a tender process we selected Copytype. Having a dedicated partner to deal with maintenance, repairs, and the provision of operational supplies takes a big workload off us and allows us to focus on our core business.”

He continues: “The solution has only been in place for a year now so there has been no real time for growth in that period but there has been less downtime. We have also been able to call on dedicated personnel with expert knowledge to resolve issues. Hopefully, our business will grow and with it the business we do with Copytype.”

Legal

Cian O'Carroll Solicitors based in Cashel, County Tipperary, specialises in medical negligence and personal injury law. It uses the Epson WorkForce WF-C20590 colour and WorkForce WF-M5799DWF mono MFPs to produce large legal briefs.

The operation began working with Copytype soon after it was founded, and owner Cian explains: “Copytype approached us several year ago. From the outset the relationship was easy as it is a lovely, friendly company to work with. Copytype suggests what our needs are and to date all the suggestions have been excellent. It takes a very minimalist approach and discourages unnecessary expenditure. It also looks after everything very quickly in terms of maintenance. We don’t have any backup, we have just what we need and never have any periods of downtime.”

He adds: “The relationship works through the trust Copytype have established with me. I know when Copytype recommends something it is going to be good quality, it is going meet my needs and it is always going to be good value. When we started to work together there were just two or three people here, now there are 25. We are a big operation compared to other solicitors in this niche area of law. If there are more than a couple of people in a room, then they have their own print station. We are a paperless practice, but we also need to do a huge amount of printing for court. At the end of the case, when we are preparing for trial, we end up preparing a lot of books and the systems manage the scanning and printing requirement. Working with Copytype is cost effective and gives us tremendous peace of mind.”

Conclusion

Bringing Epson’s claims to life is the Optimisation Tool, an innovative new platform from Epson that enables partners such as Copytype to quantify the multitude of savings that businesses can enjoy when switching from laser to Epson’s Heat-Free inkjet printers. As a result of switching to Epson’s Heat-Free technology, over a 60-month contract these four businesses have reduced their collective impact on the environment while saving time, cost and consumables.

CO2 saving calculated as being proportional to energy (i.e. reduced energy usage results in reduced CO2 generation), based on a per territory average generation of kg CO2 per kWh electricity used. ii Based on Epson calculations, Epson business inkjet time-saving calculated by comparison to business laser devices’ average lowest "Print/Copy time" ("from Previous Job", "from Ready State" or "from Sleep State") as reported by ENERGY STAR, added to the time taken to print at maximum speed the remaining pages in an average sized office print job and multiplied by the average number of print jobs per year, according to Keypoint Intelligence.
