Epson launches new range of high-volume dot matrix printers with improved performance
1 November 2017 - One of the pioneers of dot matrix printing, Epson is launching a range of new nine-pin dot matrix printers designed for high-volume operation in a range of industries where reliability and cost are key, including freight, warehousing, finance and air travel. They are also ideal for users wishing to replace existing dot matrix models with faster, even more reliable units.
The range includes the 80-column FX-890II (available November 2017) and the 136-column FX-2190II (available February 2018), as well as networked variants. A version with a secure lockable cover for use in airports and other public spaces, the FX-890AII, is due to launch during 2018.
Market-leading print speeds¹ of 735cps at 12cpi ensure that these printers don’t waste any time, which is especially invaluable when printing very high volumes. Epson has worked hard to make its already very durable dot matrix technology even more reliable, and has improved the mean time between failures by a substantial 25% to 25,000 power-on hours.
The FX-890II offers a fresh, contemporary design and a smaller overall footprint than previous models, meaning that these units are easy to swap in for existing models in the office or warehouse.
Reggie Dubb, product manager, Epson Europe, says, “Epson’s dot matrix technology is mature and extremely durable, so we’re delighted that at this stage in its lifecycle, we’ve managed to improve reliability as well as speed. There are many tasks for which dot matrix is still by far the best solution, so we pay as much attention to offering dot matrix customers the best possible product as we do for our inkjet customers.”
The FX-890II and FX890IIN are available from November 2017, and the FX-2190II and FX2190IIN are available from February 2018. The FX-890AII will be launched during 2018.
