Epson smart glasses reveal new augmented horizons with optimised Wikitude AR SDK

Developing new augmented reality applications for smart glasses has become even simpler as global technology firm, Epson, announces that its binocular see-through Moverio BT-300 and BT-350 smart glasses are now supported by Wikitude, the world’s leading independent AR platform with over 1 billion installs and winner of the 2017 Auggie Award for ‘Best Developer Tool’.

Wikitude’s support for Epson’s Moverio BT-300 and BT-350 smart glasses will enable developers to extend current applications for augmented reality with easy-to-apply new functionality including object recognition, instant tracking (markerless SLAM), image recognition and tracking, location-based AR and more.

“Developing augmented reality applications for Epson’s leading Moverio smart glasses is now even easier thanks to the global partnership with Wikitude” comments Valerie Riffaud-Cangelosi, Epson Europe. “Wikitude’s Augmented Reality SDK will enable developers to take augmented reality applications to the next level. Epson already works closely with developers across many industry sectors looking to create great applications that significantly improve the user experience both in the workplace, in visitor attractions and at leisure.”

The announcement comes as growing demand for AR applications sees increasing use cases for smart glasses across a wide and diverse range of sectors including museums & visitor attractions, retail, healthcare, dentistry, repair & maintenance and education.

Epson was one of the first companies to enter the AR market and has been developing augmented reality smart glasses since 2011. The latest Epson Moverio devices are reduced in weight, have improved processing capability, longer battery life, enhanced camera capabilities and feature Epson’s unique binocular silicon-based OLED displays for side-by-side 3D content view.

Wikitude’s AR SDK has been fully customised to make the best out of the unique features of the Moverio BT-300 and BT-350, ensuring optimal performance in a variety of environments and use cases.

“This is an exciting step towards delivering a wider range of hands-free augmented reality experiences. Wikitude’s fully optimised SDK combined with Epson’s cutting-edge devices will empower businesses worldwide to work better, faster and in a more collaborative way” said Martin Herdina, CEO at Wikitude.

Moverio certified partners will demonstrate Wikitude AR SDK-based application at the Epson stand ISE 2018; Stand H90, Hall 1. Developers can start today by downloading Wikitude SDK 7.1.
