Epson Moverio smart glasses now integrated with TeamViewer Pilot to support augmented reality remote assistance

Epson Europe, 7 October, 2019– Epson Moverio BT-350 augmented reality smart glasses are now integrated with TeamViewer Pilot, providing secure connectivity for remote assistance applications. TeamViewer Pilot enables experts to remotely guide users through complex operations via Moverio smart glasses using live camera-sharing, voice and on-screen annotations. Organisations using Moverio BT-350 smart glasses with TeamViewer Pilot can benefit from faster problem resolution, reduced downtime and minimised travel costs with improved oversight promoting safer work environments.

“The widespread adoption of smart glasses as the technology of choice for remote assistance is due to a number of factors, not least the convenience of working hands-free without the distraction of taking one’s eyes off the task in hand,” comments Valerie Riffaud-Cangelosi, Epson Europe.  The Epson and TeamViewer partnership is an important step forward for the use of binocular smart glasses in remote assistance. The combination of TeamViewer’s highly flexible software combined with Epson unique projection technology gives users a practical, easy-to-use and very scalable remote assistance solution.”

“Organisations with large customer or field services teams are challenged to have the right person onsite to solve immediate problems,” says Gautam Goswami, TeamViewer’s CMO and Head of Products. “Moverio smart glasses integrated with TeamViewer Pilot allow experts to be virtually onsite from anywhere in the world. This means that field workers and service technicians working on complex service, repair or operational problems can be assisted visually by remote experts while still having both their hands free to execute guided instructions and resolve issues more quickly – thus greatly improving productivity and customer satisfaction.”

Experts in centralised support organisations can connect to a computer or smart mobile device and be virtually transported to the remote location to view what field workers are seeing through smart glasses in real time. They can then make AR annotations with guiding arrows, free-hand drawing, sequence guidance and more, right on top of objects in the field of view of the onsite worker. TeamViewer Pilot technology allows companies to create a ‘shared central intelligence’ framework reducing work disruptions caused by the shortage of a skilled workforce. This will also help in the transfer of knowledge and creating visual help documentation from retiring generations.

With real-time support, a technician can complete a task faster, whether on a remote electricity utility pole or tethered atop a wind turbine, cutting down on machine downtime and improving incident response time.

Visual guidance is especially valuable when the problem is too difficult to explain or when audio instructions are hard to hear. Many companies with large field services or manufacturing teams are choosing Moverio smart glasses for maintenance, repair and on-the-job training. Now with TeamViewer Pilot, experts can be available from anywhere to guide and educate field employees when issues come up. Experts can connect and collaborate in seconds, no matter where the field employee is located using Epson Moverio smart glasses.

The Epson Moverio BT-350 smart glasses have been designed to be durable and comfortable. The design of the glasses is ergonomic and familiar meaning they can be worn repeatedly for long periods by many different users, in complete comfort, no matter their head shape and size, or if they wear glasses.

The binocular see-through display provides a wide field of view and overlays remotely communicated content where the user needs it most.  With the BT-350, unused display space appears truly transparent thanks to our Si-OLED micro display technology. This means augmented content can be immersively overlaid onto the real world.
