Epson improves printer reliability at the boarding gate
December 2011 – Global imaging and printing leader, Epson, announces a new addition to its specialist dot-matrix printer family – the FX-890A – developed specifically to address the needs of airlines and airport operators.
Based on Epson’s proven 9-pin dot-matrix technology, the FX-890A is built for reliability, making it the ideal printer for mission-critical documents such as passenger manifests.
With the needs of the airport environment in mind, it has a rugged build with a shock-resistant cover and sheet feeder, plus a heavy-duty, reinforced acrylic tear-off bar that is independent of the cover for durability and ease of replacement.
One of the fastest printers in its class, the FX-890A prints up to 680cps at 12cpi in ultra-high-speed draft mode. It can also handle up to 7-part forms, enabling it to deliver passenger manifests and other important documents quickly and efficiently.
Utilising Epson’s 40-year heritage in dot matrix development, the FX-890A requires minimal maintenance with a mean time between failure of 20,000 hours. The ribbon yield is 7.5 million characters for fewer replacements.
“Epson designs products with the needs of the end user in mind,” says Heidi Wagner, product manager at Epson Europe. “In addition to rugged components developed for the tough airport environment, we’ve given the FX-890A a locked front cover as standard. This helps improve airport security by preventing members of the public hiding items inside, removing the need for security checks and preventing unnecessary damage.”
Easy to install, the FX-890A has parallel and USB interfaces, plus drivers for straightforward integration into any Windows application.
