Which printer is right for your large enterprise or business?

When it comes to business printing – and especially choosing the business printers that are best for your large enterprise – there’s a lot to know. And a lot of questions to answer. So how do you make the most informed choice possible? And how do you evaluate the options available to you?   In this buyer’s guide, we’ll take you through those options and outline the key questions you should be asking. What is a business printer? Let’s start with the fundamentals. What do we mean by a ‘business printer’? And how does it differ from your average home office setup? Business printers are robust machines designed for high-volume, high-speed printing with advanced networking capabilities. They’re built to meet business print needs, where efficient, reliable printing solutions are critical. And some offer optional finishing capabilities, for that added professional feel.   Do you look for high-speed, management software and security from your printers? Used in sectors such as financial services, education, healthcare, government and more, large business enterprises value printers for their durability, efficiency and ability to handle significant print volumes with ease. Functionality you should be looking for includes:   High-speed colour printing – print speeds can vary, but you should consider printers that are capable of anything between 40 and 100…

Don’t settle for a poor view of content

Imagine going to the cinema to watch a long-anticipated film. You’ve read the reviews. You’ve queued up. You’ve bought snacks and turned off your phone. You enter the auditorium ready to be blown away. And the screen is tiny and fuzzy. All you can see are other people’s heads.   You’d be disappointed. You’d probably ask for your money back. Yet this is the exact experience workers and learners across the world have every day. They walk into countless meeting rooms and classrooms to gain knowledge, present or connect with colleagues, and they’re confronted with a digital screen that’s inadequate.   The result? In business, it leads to inefficient meetings and reduced collaboration. But in education, it’s even more concerning. Epson research among teachers shows poor display technology can reduce academic outcomes.   Teachers say there’s a link between children being unable to clearly view a screen or display, and lower exam and test scores 1. It’s been characterised as kids at the back of the class getting the ‘cheap seats,’ akin to sitting in the upper balconies at a traditional theatre, where the view is poor.   It’s odd that what would never be acceptable in an entertainment context isn’t always addressed in workplaces and educational settings. Especially considering people are crying out for…

The Epson promise – enriching education through technology

The Epson promise – enriching education through technology This year’s COP27 Summit in Sharm El- Sheikh will bring world leaders, governments and businesses together to put plans in place to mitigate the impact of climate change and support the climate action we urgently need.  As climate change continues to rapidly intensify, we urgently need to accelerate global efforts and shift from pledges to actions to avert a climate disaster. Ahead of the summit, we surveyed respondents from 28 of our markets to help understand people’s perceptions and actions being taken to tackle climate change. Our data revealed that businesses play a powerful role in raising overall awareness of climate change. In Africa 75%, and in Europe 55%, of respondents cite company and community sustainability initiatives as influential on climate attitudes and actions. Now more than ever, there is an increased need for collective action to raise greater awareness of climate impacts, as we continue to work towards a more sustainable future. The power of education Education is a powerful agent for change and plays a key role in tackling the climate emergency. In Africa, we work closely with government, industry and community partners to deliver projects that provide printing technologies, sustainable power, local skills hubs and educational materials. We are working with World Mobile…

Why on demand labelling has sticking power as a sustainable solution

European businesses could annually save 28.7 million kWh – the equivalent of lighting 95,960 homes or a reduction of 6.7 million tonnes of CO2.  They could also eliminate 180 million square metres of label waste, the equivalent covering of 25,264 football pitches, and cut ink waste by an estimated 619 tonnes, the equivalent weight of 41 double decker buses. These are the among the figures reported by Smithers  following its comparison and evaluation of the sustainability of different print processes to see how brands can achieve key goals. It analysed businesses using a range of commercial, thermal transfer and in-house colour inkjet printing processes and calculated their impact from label stock to application. It found major commercial and operational benefits of using inkjet to print labels inhouse along with the demonstrable reduction of: Energy consumption as commercial print processes are energy intensive with a traditional flexo label printer using around 39 kWh per 1000 square meters of labels printed. If that label has variable data printed using thermal transfer the combined energy use is 41 kWh per 1000 square meters. Inkjet can use just 1% of that energy for the same volume. Waste with Smithers estimating up to 11% of label materials are wasted from label stock to final application due to start up…

Five Misconceptions Around Automated Label Printing

When you think of robotics in the workplace what image springs to mind? A highly sterile secure laboratory? A huge production line managing an array of components? Or a small to medium print production environment that delivers a range of applications? I am sure the latter was not your first thought, but it is a reality that is increasingly being made possible for small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) by affordable robotic solutions and label printers. The sales of professional service robots is on the rise and the International Federation of Robots (IFR) expects the market’s annual compound annual growth rate (CAGR) will be 26% in 2023.   The IFR also predicts the pandemic will be a digitalization booster creating growth opportunities for the robotics industry worldwide.   This in turn can support SMEs as they shape their post-pandemic operation.   It can enable print production environments – particularly colour product label printing – to integrate the numerous time and labour savings offered by robotics, coupled with socially distanced and automated operations.   When talking to SMEs about these opportunities we have noticed five common misconceptions.   1. I am too small an operation to benefit In fact, the greatest benefit tends to be with small and medium sized businesses, where flexibility is an important competitive…

We shouldn’t be making-do with makeshift offices

We shouldn’t be making-do with makeshift offices Like most, I’ve been working from home for over a year now. It certainly has its benefits: the five-second commute, home comforts on hand, the extra time to spend with my family.   In fact, we recently carried out a survey amongst 1,000 of our customers across Europe and it revealed that one in twenty people have admitted to having a nap during work hours, taking a relaxing lunchbreak to new heights. I’m sure none of them were Epson employees.   Sleeping aside, if you’d told me at the very start of the pandemic that I would still be sat working in my home office a year later, I would have put more thought into my set-up from the beginning.   Our recent survey shows that people have worked in less than ideal conditions throughout the lockdowns. More than half admitting to working on surfaces other than a desk. Meanwhile, 55 per cent say they have set up in unconventional spaces around the home, such as hallways, bathrooms and gardens. When offices were only expected to be shut for a few weeks or months, this may have seemed tolerable, perhaps even a novelty. However, it can’t go on.   There may not be much that can be…

Blended home and office working calls for better set-ups

It seems increasingly more likely that many businesses will adopt a blended or hybrid-working model once the pandemic ends. The new model will allow employees to choose how and where they work and allows this to vary as needed.     However, while many enjoy the comforts and flexibility that home working has to offer, it’s not all smooth sailing. A recent survey carried out by Epson, revealed that nearly a quarter of workers have found their motivation has decreased since the start of lockdowns and a further 45 per cent believe that their motivation will decrease further as home working continues. This is in part due to a lack of suitable equipment – in fact, 42 per cent of current home workers claim that a lack of appropriate equipment has impacted their productivity.   So, if employees are to be given the option of where they work, then both the office and home environment need to enable them to do so effectively. To achieve this, employees must be armed with the tools to stay as motivated and productive while working at home.   Of course, businesses will not have an endless pot of money to supply equipment and not all employees need the same tools, so it’s vital that consideration is given on…
